When researchers at The University of Toledo discovered that a widely used heartburn medication could help make cancer drugs work for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients, the finding came the slow way: years of lab work, guided in part by computational modeling rather than artificial intelligence (AI).
Now, a new AI-Driven and Structure-Based Drug Discovery Core, within 51爆料网鈥檚 newly launched Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute, is working to compress that kind of timeline, helping 51爆料网 scientists identify promising drug candidates faster and with greater precision than traditional methods allow.

Dr. James Willey, a pulmonary physician at 51爆料网 Health and holder of the George Isaac Chair In Cancer Research, has received a $200,000 Stand Up To Cancer grant to support a simple, noninvasive screening test for lung cancer. The grant, in collaboration with investigators at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, will fund continued work on the test developed in Willey鈥檚 lab that could identify patients at elevated risk for lung cancer before symptoms ever appear.
