Physician Assistant Studies

Prerequisites

The following prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher, unless otherwise noted. A grade of C- is not accepted. Anatomy and Physiology courses require a minimum grade of B-.
For applicants enrolled at institutions that utilize a point-based grading system, a 3.0 is considered equivalent to a B and a 2.0 is considered equivalent to a C. Any grade below 2.0 is not acceptable.

  2. Physiology course (3 semester credit hours)*
  3. General/Inorganic Chemistry course (3 semester credit hours)
  4. General/Inorganic Chemistry Lab (1 semester credit hour)**
  5. Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry course (3 semester credit hours)
  6. Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry lab (1 semester credit hour)**
  7. Microbiology course (3 semester credit hours)
  8. Microbiology lab (1 semester credit hour)**
  9. Psychology (6 semester credit hours)***听
  10. College-level math or Statistics (3 semester credit hours)
  11. Medical Terminology (1 semester credit hour)

Course Notes

*Six credit hours of combined Anatomy & Physiology coursework (e.g., A&P I and II) will satisfy the Anatomy and Physiology requirements. Certain 5-credit Anatomy & Physiology courses may also meet these requirements and will be reviewed on an individual basis.听Applicants should contact the program for a prerequisite review.

** The laboratory will be recognized as an independent course if it is completed separately from the main course.

*** General Psychology and Lifespan Psychology are recommended. Any two psychology courses will be accepted as long as they are taught by the psychology department.

Additional Prerequisite Policies

U.S. Institution Requirement

All prerequisite coursework must be completed at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.听

Degrees earned outside the United States may be accepted if determined to be equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree through an approved credential evaluation process

Coursework Recenty Requirement

All prerequisite coursework must be completed within eight (8) years of matriculation. For example, applicants entering the program in Fall 2027 must have completed prerequisite coursework between Fall 2019 and June 15, 2027.

Pending Courswork

Applicants may have up to three outstanding prerequisite courses at the time of application. All prerequisite requirements must be completed by June 15 prior to matriculation.

Prerequisite courses may be completed in traditional, hybrid, or online formats from regionally accredited U.S. institutions, provided they meet all program requirements

Advanced Placement (AP) Credit听

Advanced Placement (AP) credit may be used to satisfy the Psychology and College-level Math/Statistics prerequisite requirements when the credit appears on an official college or university transcript.

Medical Terminology听

The Medical Terminology prerequisite may be satisfied through a medical terminology certificate or successful completion of a medical terminology course with a grade of Pass/Credit.

Pass/Fail Coursework听

Pass/Fail coursework is not accepted for prerequisite requirements. The only exception is the Medical Terminology prerequisite, which may be satisfied through approved Pass/Credit coursework or a medical terminology certificate.

Repeated Coursework听

All grades earned in repeated courses are included in the CASPA-calculated GPA. Repeating a course does not remove or replace the original grade in the overall or prerequisite GPA calculation.

Quarter-System Institutions

For applicants attending institutions that use a quarter system, five (5) quarter credit hours are considered equivalent to three (3) semester credit hours.
